Fiona's Story

Update 10/15/2018: Thank you Dr. Starr!

Fiona's journey continues - and all of us at Buddy Dog feel honored and thankful to be a part of this amazing dog's recovery and fight for survival. We owe a huge thank you to Dr. Suzanne Starr at Paws In Motion, who has donated all of Fiona's physical therapy sessions. Fiona has made amazing strides in her recovery, and thanks to Dr. Starr, has been able to walk and play and enjoy life just like any other pup! Please enjoy the following videos of Fiona mastering the water treadmill at Paws In Motion Veterinary Rehabilitation Center!

Update 8/18/2018: Playtime!

Fiona grows stronger every day, and her bubbly (and sometimes sassy!) personality has brought joy to all of us at Buddy Dog. Her transformation from a frightened and injured dog to the spirited and joyful girl we know today is truly remarkable. She shares her happiness with all, but seems especially fond of puppies - watch our latest video of Fiona (gently) wrestling with puppy "Sunny"!

Update 7/5/2018: Fiona's Physical Therapy

We are happy to report that Fiona has started her physical- and hydro-therapy at Paws In Motion in Natick.

We thought Fiona would be reluctant to participate but once again she pleasantly surprised us. Fiona was very comfortable as she was escorted into the water unit by Dr. Suzanne Starr. After the tank slowly filled with water, Fiona did not hesitate to walk along the treadmill. She seemed to enjoy the exercise and all the attention. After the session, Fiona made herself comfortable in the office as we reviewed her therapy plan. She is slowly putting pressure on her injured leg, and hopefully she will continue to improve. Nice job, Fiona!

Update 6/17/2018

Fiona is progressing very well and has gained almost 2lbs! She is on a special refeeding and nutritional program. Although 2lbs does not seem like a lot, her nutritionist explained it is important not to overload her system so Fiona is being carefully monitored. She is on a strict diet and weight gain program.

The next step for Fiona will be to have a rehabilitation program custom designed to address her special needs. The program will help alleviate pain, gain strength and improve mobility.

We are all encouraged by her progress and so proud of Fiona. She is a strong little dog with an amazing will to live. Her sweet personality always shines through even with all the poking, prodding and pill pockets!

We are so appreciative of the generosity and well wishes we've received on Fiona's behalf. More progress reports soon to come!

Update 6/17/18: Fiona's Recovery

Thank you so much to everyone who has so generously contributed to Fiona's care. Fiona was released from Tufts Veterinary Hospital - yahoo! She is on a strict diet and physical therapy program. She will need another surgery in a few weeks to remove a bladder stone which is affecting her ability to express her bladder. For now, the focus is on weight and strength gain and increased mobility and use of her fractured leg. If love and prayers were the cure she would already be bounding about, but TLC and time will tell what the future holds for this sweet girl. Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Fiona couldn't have come this far without your help. We will post updates so all of Fiona's friends can follow her progress.

Update: 5/30/18: Fiona's Matching Dollar Challenge - Every Dollar Doubled!

Fiona is resting comfortably today after surgery to repair her broken leg and pelvis. Although the surgery was more complicated than anticipated her surgeon feels it went very well. In addition to this good news, we also received a very generous offer from a longtime donor to match dollar for dollar all incoming gifts from now until Fiona's release - up to $3000! Please help us meet this challenge for Fiona by giving today!

Update: 5/29/2018:

Please keep Fiona in your thoughts and prayers. Fiona is scheduled to have surgery to repair her broken leg and pelvis this afternoon. Since she was found last week, she has been receiving incredible around-the-clock care at Tufts Veterinary Hospital. She has been fed tablespoons of food every few hours because her frail body still cannot tolerate normal amounts of food. She had a neurological and ophthalmic exam due to some concerns that fortunately seem to be resolving. Today she will have surgery to repair her fractured bones. Her total care costs will exceed $10,000. We are grateful to everyone who has donated to her care, shared our post and sent prayers and well wishes. We are still in need of funds for Fiona's care so please continue to spread the word. Your support makes a difference - thank you!

5/25/2018: FIONA FOUND!

After missing for 2 months, sweet Fiona is recovering in critical condition at Tufts Veterinary Medical Center. When Fiona escaped her home, she was too terrified to find her way back on her own. Two months and one miraculous phone call later, Fiona has been found and is receiving around-the-clock intensive care. She has a long difficult road ahead of her, and will require all the strength, love and care we can provide her. We are so relieved that Fiona has been found and forever grateful to Missing Dogs Massachusetts, our volunteers and all who tirelessly searched for Fiona. A special thank you to Jonny Rino and Christine Maider for the life-saving call that allowed us to finally get Fiona to safety.
