Adopt
Our goal is to make the adoption experience a pleasant and educational one for the adopter while placing a pet in a home where it is likely to succeed. This is accomplished by following strict guidelines when matching people and pets. The end result is — hopefully — a permanent and caring home for the pet and a loving companion for the adoptive family.
How to Adopt
Policies and procedures:
1. Adoptable dogs and cats are posted on our website and Facebook page. If you are a Massachusetts resident interested in adopting a particular pet or submitting a general request the first step is to complete an online ADOPTION application (click HERE). As you can imagine we receive many applications and inquiries. If you do not hear from us it simply means either the dog or cat has been adopted, we received a high volume of applications for that animal, or we have not received the right pet for you. The application process is at no charge to you and only needs to be completed once. Applications will be kept on file.
2. All visits are by appointment only.
3. Applications will be reviewed as received. If in our opinion a pet is a good candidate for you, an adoption counselor will contact you by email to schedule a Zoom chat. If all are in agreement the pet has the potential to be a good match, an introduction will be scheduled.
4. If you have any questions, concerns, or need additional information on adopting or surrendering a pet we can be reached by email at info@buddydoghs.org and all emails will receive a response. We can also be reached by messenger on Facebook or by telephone at 978 443-6990. If we do not answer please leave a voicemail and your call will be returned ASAP.
A pre-adoption interview and online application qualify every adopter. Please note that we do not adopt out-of-state, and adopters must be aged 21+. As part of the application process, prospective adopters should be prepared to provide proof of homeownership, and renters need to provide a lease that states they are permitted pets at their residence. The bulk of the application is used as a tool for our adoption counselors to educate & guide adopters in areas of pet care they may not be familiar with. Our experienced staff is available to counsel adopters on pet care, behavior, and other issues. Our staff is always available post-adoption to ensure the transition is going well, and answer any questions or concerns that may arise.
